Senior Manager - National Tax Controversy

What Work You Will be Responsible For:    

  • IRS examinations and appeals cases, including drafting responses to Information Document Requests and Notices of Proposed Adjustments

  • Preparing IRS appeals protests and participate in appeals conferences.

  • Advising on centralized partnership audit procedures

  • Preparing private letter ruling requests.

  • Consulting on a broad range of IRS practice and procedure issues.

  • Addressing collection matters including Installment Agreements, Offers in Compromise and Collection Due Process Hearings

  • Performing research and consulting on a broad range of federal tax issues and IRS practice and procedure issues

  • Assisting with firmwide training programs and thought leadership publications.

  • Drafting firmwide alerts on tax controversy developments.

  • Assisting with Tax Quality Control initiatives.

  • Mentoring staff  

Basic Qualifications:    

  • 7+ years of progressive IRS tax controversy experience (law firm, accounting firm, or IRS preferred) 

  • J.D. 

  • Bar Admission, CPA or EA

  • Excellent written, oral communication and time management skills 

  • Strong technical tax research skills

  • Ability to work independently and as part of the national tax controversy team

 Preferred/Desired Qualifications:   

  • Tax LLM

  • Judicial clerkship or other government experience and/or accounting background

For NYC and California, the expected salary range for this position is between $128,980.00 and $241,837.00. The range for the position in other geographies may vary based on market differences. The actual compensation will be determined based on experience and other factors permitted by law.
